How to Recover Lost Data From Auto Data Recovery

Because corrupted company files can lead to the irreversible loss of essential data, the focus of this article is on the auto data recovery offered by QuickBooks. Consequently, in order to successfully complete QuickBooks recovery, the procedure that is detailed below will be of great assistance to you.

Because it is essential for your company to retrieve all of its data in its entirety, this article will prove to be very helpful to you.

What exactly is QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery, and how does it function

QuickBooks Desktop includes a recovery tool called QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR) as part of its standard functionality (QBDT). It assists in the retrieval and restoration of lost QuickBooks data by performing any one of the following actions:

  • For the purpose of restoring the most recent transactions, you will need to make use of the most recent file in the Transaction Log (.TLG Log) and a copy of the Company file (.QBW).

  • To restore all of the data, you will need a copy of the .QBW file as well as the .TLG file. The only exception will be the transactions that have been completed in the most recent few hours.

Solutions for Recovering Lost Data Using QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery

There are two ways to recover QuickBooks data using the ADR tool:

Solution 1: Recover Recent Transactions Using.TLG File and.QBW.adr File

To recover recent transactions, use the original Transaction Log (.TLG) file and the ADR version of the QBW file. Here's how:

  • Make a new folder on your Windows desktop, say QBTest.

  • Next, navigate to and open the folder where your company file is saved.

  • Once you've found the folder containing your company file, search the .tlg file for a file with the same name as the company file. If you cannot find a file with the .tlg extension, follow these steps to display file extensions:

  • Open File Explorer by pressing 'Windows' on your keyboard.

  • Click Organize in the File Explorer window, and then select Folder and search options.

  • Check the "Hide extensions for known file types" box.

  • Click Apply, and then OK.

  • Copy the Transaction Log (.TLG) file from your company file and paste it into the QBTest folder (created in Step 1).

  • Now, navigate to the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery folder. The folder is in the same folder as the company (QBW) file.

  • Copy and paste the .QBW.adr file into the QBTest folder.

  • You should now have a .TLG and.QBW.adr file in the QBTest folder.

  • Rename the QBW.adr file in the QBTest folder by right-clicking it and selecting Rename.

  • Delete the.adr extension from the end of the newly renamed QBW.adr file.

Solution 2: Make copies of the company file and the transaction log files

  • Open QuickBooks and click on the QBTest folder to find the company file you saved there.

  • Check that all of your transactions are in your account register by looking at it.

  • Next, click File > Utilities > Verify Data to make sure that the data in the recovered file is correct.

  • If the copy of the company file has the data you want, move the corrupted company file (QBW) to a different location. Then, save the copy of the QBW file from QBTest back to where it was.

For this solution to work, you need to use the.QBW.adr and.TLG.adr files to get back all of the transactions except for the last 12 hours. Here's what you need to do:

  • Make a new folder on the desktop. Call it QBTest or anything else.

  • Open the folder where the QBW file is and look for a folder called QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery.

  • Find the TLG.adr and QBW.adr files in the QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery folder. The company file is the same name as the files. For example, if the name of the company file is "MyCompanyName.QBW," they will look for "MyCompanyName.QBW.adr" and "MyCompanyName.TLG.adr."

  • Put the .TLG.adr and.QBW.adr files in the QBTest folder by copying and pasting them there.

  • Take the .adr off the end of the names of the Transaction Log and Company files in the QBTest folder.

  • Open QuickBooks and then open your company file, which is in the QBTest folder. Use your account register to check all the transactions.

  • Use the Verify Data tool to make sure that the data in the recovered file is correct. Click File, move your mouse over Utilities, and then click Verify Data to open the utility.

  • If the copy of the company file (the recovered file) has all the information you need, move the damaged QBW file to a different location and save the copy of the QBW file from QBTest to the original location.
